Not just shopping. The iconic property that once housed the Odeon cinema in Milan, just a stone's throw from Piazza Duomo, will once again host a cinema in the centre of Milan.
The reopening is the result of an agreement between Kryalos Sgr - which manages the Aedison Fund to which the property belongs - and The Space Cinema, already the historic tenant of the space before the redevelopment and redevelopment project began.
Inaugurated in 1929, the Odeon cinema became the city's first multiplex in 1986 and has always been a landmark for Milan as well as a symbol of the traditions of the Milanese. After the restoration and modernisation, the cinema will return to life at the Odeon with five completely renovated theatres, respecting the historical value of the location, for a total of about 700 seats, which will occupy the entire basement floor.
The Space Cinema will present itself to the city as a new cultural and entertainment space, thanks to state-of-the-art projection technology and the preservation of the original furnishings of the time.
The reopening is scheduled for the second half of 2027, while work continues on the redevelopment of the building, which will also house Rinascente Odeon Beauty Hall, an experiential hub dedicated to beauty.
"We are particularly proud of having preserved and returned to the community an iconic asset that represents the memory and cultural identity of Milan," said Paolo Bottelli, CEO of Kryalos. "With this initiative we reaffirm the value of the cinema as a collective experience, a meeting place, and a heritage to be protected. The collaboration with The Space Cinema allows us to unite tradition and innovation, offering the city a space that has been renewed but is faithful to its original vocation'.
"We are very pleased to announce that Vue's Italian operation, The Space Cinema, has once again been selected to open a state-of-the-art cinema in the historic Odeon building, right next to Milan's Duomo," added Tim Richards, CEO and founder of Vue (the Italian owner of The Space Cinema). Once the works have been completed, the new cinema will bring the entire area back to being an important place of meeting and discovery, both for the Milanese public and for foreign visitors".
"The reopening of the Odeon cinema - added Francesco Grandinetti, general manager of The Space Cinema - represents a significant moment for our company and for the city of Milan: in this way we give back to the community a space rich in history with great pride".
