A total of 235 beds, divided into 165 single and double rooms. All enclosed in a completely wooden structure, with photovoltaic panels on the roof. The new student residence, which will redevelop one of the buildings in the San Gregorio complex, built in the 1980s but long since in a state of neglect, will be built by the South Tyrol-based Pohl Immobilien group, a company that develops and implements highly sustainable real estate projects throughout Italy. Already almost completely demolished (apart from the ground floor and basement) is the L-shaped complex facing Via Turazza and Via Pellizzo, with access also from Via Ariosto. The complex is located in the Stanga area, a short distance from the Piovego university campus housing the hard sciences (Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Pharmacy), the Psychology citadel and the Economics classrooms. The aim is to have the rooms available for the start of the 2025/2026 academic year.

The Project

Pohl Immobilien's project will thus become a plastic example of a 'reinventing city', in an area perceived by the population as a 'black hole', abandoned for more than 20 years, which instead now finds itself central, especially - but not only - for the student population. The environment will also benefit: the modern, wooden construction will in fact lead to a saving in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. "The municipal administration is directing its investments for the construction of new student halls of residence in the direction of regenerating disused buildings or areas and meeting the housing needs of students, also with an eye on accessibility for deserving students," recalls Antonio Bressa, Councillor for Private Construction of the Municipality of Padua. "Both objectives have been achieved in this important building operation that we have been supporting from the very beginning. This new building with high energy performance will therefore be an excellent example of how to transform the city in the direction of sustainability and the ability to continue to accommodate students in a city with an international and university vocation, also thanks to the share of rooms available to Esu. We will closely follow the progress of the construction site, continuing the fruitful collaboration with the promoter of the project".

Recovery, comfort and attention to sustainability

"We know the importance and demand for beds in a city like Padua, with a university that is as prestigious as it is continuously growing," says Hans Martin Pohl, President of Pohl Immobilien. "We also know the importance of living in places that are welcoming and people-friendly, as well as respectful of the surrounding environment. This is why we have made all our know-how available in imagining a project that combines comfort and attention to sustainability, contributing to the recovery of an area that is currently undeveloped'.

The new student residence is designed to meet the needs of the students who will inhabit it. On the ground floor there will be a catering service, study rooms, conference rooms and common areas. Above the rooms will 'occupy' the five floors of the building, which will be just over 20 metres high.
