The University of Bologna is expanding the educational offerings of the Department of Cultural Heritage - Ravenna Campus - with two new Master's degree courses: Archaeological and Bioarchaeological Sciences in the Terrestrial and Maritime Environment and Theories and Techniques for the Study of Works of Art. These two courses are strongly oriented towards the valorisation, protection and study of cultural heritage, both archaeological and artistic, through innovative methodologies and an interdisciplinary approach. Two innovative courses, international in method and deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Territory.
Archaeological and Bioarchaeological Sciences in the Terrestrial and Maritime Environment
The course trains highly specialised professionals in terrestrial and underwater archaeology, bioarchaeology and physical-chemical sciences applied to the preventive conservation of archaeological and anthropological heritage. Teaching ranges from landscape archaeology to environmental history, from excavation techniques to digital documentation, including practical activities in national and international sites and laboratories of excellence. Professional outlets include: archaeologist, naval and underwater archaeologist, osteoarchaeologist and bioarchaeologist, expert in diagnostics, documentation and scientific-dissemination of heritage.
An ideal course for those who wish to unearth new stories, read the landscape through the eyes of time and work in museum institutions, archaeological parks, research bodies and international projects.
Theories and techniques for the study of works of art
The course offers advanced training in the critical, technical and scientific study of works of art, integrating art history, material analysis of works, museology and heritage management. Particular emphasis is placed on Technical Art History, an avant-garde international methodology that allows for the investigation of materials, execution techniques and creative processes through workshops and direct study of the works.
The course prepares figures such as technical art historian, registrar, art historian, museum conservator and conservation and documentation specialists.
A perfect course for those who wish to work in museums, galleries, superintendencies, auction houses, foundations and global cultural contexts dealing with works of art.
Ravenna
Both courses are located on the Ravenna Campus, a city historically linked to the conservation of cultural heritage and home to laboratories, excavations, cultural institutions and international projects with which students will be able to engage through practical activities, internships and scientific collaborations. The master's degrees are open to graduates from the main fields of the humanities, history of art, archaeology, literature and cultural heritage, with specific entry requirements.
