Pension provision

In Trentino the bonus arrives: up to 1,100 euro if you enrol your baby in the pension fund

The initiative provides for an initial disbursement at birth of EUR 300 and EUR 200 thereafter for four years, but only if parents also pay at least EUR 100 to the chosen form

A public contribution to start building the boys' spare pension? The idea is already a reality in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino Alto Adige. Here, in particular, a new measure, which will be definitively approved by the regional government of Trentino Alto Adige next Wednesday, 17 September, provides for an economic contribution for each newborn, adopted or fostered child to encourage the opening of a supplementary pension fund in the child's name. "The measure looks to the long term and stems from the awareness that, with the now consolidated transition to the contributory system, future pensions will be significantly lower than in the past," emphasises Carlo Daldoss, Regional Councillor for Welfare of Trentino Alto Adige. "It is a cultural push that involves families with a welfare intervention to build a future for children. A sort of dowry that can also be exploited on the basis of the various anticipation schemes provided by the complementary pension scheme to complete life projects'.

How it works

.

The contribution is equal to EUR 300 at birth, or at the time of adoption or fostering, and will be paid directly into the child's social security position once the parents have presented to the relevant offices the child's certificate of enrolment in a complementary social security fund registered with Covip (even if no payment has been made). For the following four years, an additional EUR 200 per year will be paid out, provided that the family pays at least EUR 100 per year into the same fund. The measure also applies to children who have already been born: as a transitional measure, the contribution (for a potential total of EUR 1,100 of dowry) will also apply to children who on 1 January 2025 are not yet five years old or for whom five years have not yet passed since adoption or fostering. The grant is paid to all babies (regardless of Isee) provided that the parents have been resident in Trentino Alto Adige for at least three years.

In Friuli we look at the Isee

.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia there is a similar measure with funds that are allocated each year by a resolution of the Giunta that establishes the amount of the 'contribution to complementary social security'. For the year 2025 the amount is 200 euros for each minor child for whom a payment of at least 300 euros was made in 2024 in the complementary pension fund (registered in the Covip register). The application for the contribution can be made by holders of the Family Card established by the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia with the regional law of 2021 'Provisions on family policies, promotion of youth autonomy and equal opportunities'. Moreover, it is necessary to have a valid Isee less than or equal to 35 thousand euro. And above all, it is necessary to have made payments in the previous year into the supplementary pension fund in the name of the minor children for an amount of at least 300 euro for each child. Now, while waiting for the national policy to make up its mind as well, we can only applaud these best practices that have the merit, not only of providing funds, but above all of incentivising children to think about their future in an intelligent and proactive manner. The children of the most forward-looking regions that spend on welfare will reap the rewards. It is no coincidence that in these realities the birth rate is also more sustained
