Dialogues des Carmélites' in Turin
The Philharmonic Orchestra's Open Rehearsals cycle for charity purposes continues at La Scala; Vivaldi's opera 'Ottone in villa' in Venice
This season's first concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of La Scala's Music Director-designate, Myung-Whun Chung; the orchestra has just returned from a European tour, with conductor Chailly; the concert is preceded by the Open Rehearsal, the meritorious cycle for charity purposes. In Turin we can see again - or discover - Carsen's staging of the 'Dialogues des Carmélites', which received the F. Abbiati Prize of the Italian Critics. In Venice, La Fenice rightly continues to highlight the works composed by Vivaldi.
Torino
One of the high points of the 20th century, "Dialogues des Carmélites" by Francis Poulenc, will be staged on the 31st at the Teatro Regio; performances on 2-4-8-10-12 April. Yves Abel conducts; in the role of Blanche, Ekaterina Bakanova, returning to Turin after her success in Massenet's "Manon". The direction is the celebrated one by Robert Carsen (who also signs the lights), sets by Michael Levine, who the La Scala audience already knows and who received the F. Abbiati Prize of the Italian Critics for Best Performance.
Milan
On the 29th at 7.30 p.m. at La Scala, open rehearsal of the Philharmonic Orchestra; Myung-Whun Chung conducts; on the 30th at 8 p.m. the concert, part of the Philharmonic Season. Conductor Emeritus since 2023, Music Director-designate of the Teatro alla Scala since 2026, with the Philharmonic Chung has a decades-long collaboration, just renewed in last autumn's tour of South Korea and Japan. After fourteen years, we also find pianist Leif Ove Andsnes with the Philharmonic, who in 2016 recorded the complete Beethoven concertos with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra for Sony. We hear them in Beethoven's Third Concerto and Brahms' Second Symphony.
The open rehearsal is in favour of Associazione Akanà / Associazione Comunità Oklahoma Onlus. The resources collected will guarantee the continuity and expansion of the Daimon social orchestra, created to promote the educational and cultural inclusion of minors in fragile situations through collective musical practice.
Venice
On 20, 22, 24, 26, 29 at the Teatro Malibran the opera "Ottone in villa" by Vivaldi; conducted by Diego Fasolis. The Teatro La Fenice's focus on operatic Vivaldi continues, after "Dorilla in Tempe" (2019), "Farnace" (2021), "Griselda" (2022), "Orlando furioso" (2018, 2023) and "Tamerlano" (2024). The origin of the Teatro Malibran, the second stage of La Fenice, dates back to 1678, when the glorious Teatro di S. Giovanni Grisostomo, the third theatre of the Grimani family, was built. It soon became the main Venetian stage; its directors included Carlo Goldoni.
