In the first three months of the year, 27,237 injuries were reported to Inail by students of all levels, up 5.6% from 25,797 in the first quarter of 2025. This is indicated by the Institute's provisional data, which, following the extension of Inail protection to students, devotes a specific focus to analysing accidents that occurred in this area. There were three fatal cases reported to Inail by March 2026, there were five in the same period in 2025.
School-to-work training
Of the more than 27,000 accident reports, 280 concerned students involved in 'school-to-work' training, a 54% reduction compared to March 2025. Lombardy is the region with the most complaints (24% of the national total; +9.8% on 2025), followed by Emilia-Romagna (13%; +16.4%), Veneto (12%; +5.5%) and Piedmont (10%; -0.6%). Ninety-five per cent of the complaints concerned students in state schools, the remaining five per cent students in non-state and public schools. Ninety-seven per cent of the reported cases occur during school activities, 3% during the school day.
