A long-term industrial roadmap for Ambrogio Invernizzi, president of Inalpi, the dairy industry of Moretta, in the province of Cuneo, which last year inaugurated its second spray tower for the production of powdered milk. The path that the company wants to follow develops along several stages that 'in ten years' time will take us to a billion in turnover, but first, in three years' time, there will be a listing on the stock exchange. We have already started the evaluation process,' Invernizzi anticipates.

There are several fronts on which the company, which will reach 300 million in revenue this year, is working. The budget for next year envisages two options. The first is linked to a growth in turnover of about 10%, thus reaching about 330-340 million. The second aims at growth through external lines. There are two dossiers on the owner's desk: the first involves the acquisition of a major distributor of dairy products in a European country. The other involves the expansion of the product range with an increase in market share. In this second case, the turnover would reach 400 million and the number of employees would increase from around 400 today to 500.

'In the period between the years 2025 and 2028, we have launched an investment plan of almost 90 million,' the president continues. We are mainly focusing on doubling the factory dedicated to the production of cheese slices in Moretta. On completion, production capacity will increase to 50 thousand tonnes per year from the current 20 thousand. We will also increase the production of cheeses, and in the course of next year we will start up the production of mascarpone. All produced with Piedmontese milk from the supply chain'. There are three key products for Inalpi: milk powder, slices and butter, which together account for 90% of revenues. The remainder is made up of new product innovations such as, for example, cheeses with more calcium or yoghurts with new flavour varieties.

Then there is the path of internationalisation. 'In 2025 we will participate in fairs in the Emirates, Japan, Thailand,' Ambrogio Invernizzi anticipates. 'Our export is at 60% with the objective of reaching 70%. We also want to grow in Italy because we still have low market shares and we have the ambition to grow'. Two are the most important markets: France followed by Holland. Other countries where we are present include China, where we aim to consolidate our presence in both the B2B and retail sectors, but also, for example, Iceland, Serbia and Panama.

This is where process and product innovation comes into play, which at Inalpi takes the form of Inlab Solutions, a research and development hub of around 2,000 square metres at the Moretta site. A hub where work is carried out to respond to new market demands, quality control and analysis of incoming milk coming from a short supply chain, and training for conferters. Every year the company receives 400 million litres from the supply chain, but the aim is to reach 550 million.

As far as sustainability is concerned, Ambrogio Invernizzi anticipates the goal for the Moretta site: 'The first plant in Europe in the sector with an industrial closed-circuit system for water,' the president explains. 'It is an 8 million euro investment. The water from the condensate of the spraying towers will be recovered and the waste water from the purification plant will be treated and reused within the production processes. Projects that will enter the cycle in the second half of 2025. When fully operational, more than one million cubic metres of water per year will be saved.
