Industry: Istat reports production up 0.7 per cent in July, unchanged year-on-year
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Istat estimates that in July the seasonally adjusted industrial production index rose by 0.7 per cent month-on-month; it remained unchanged year-on-year according to both the unadjusted and the adjusted indices (there were 23 working days, the same as in July 2025). The seasonally adjusted index shows a month-on-month decline only for energy (-0.9 per cent); increases were recorded for consumer goods (+2.1 per cent), intermediate goods (+0.5 per cent) and capital goods (+0.2 per cent). Adjusted for calendar effects, production rose year-on-year only for energy (+6.4 per cent); there were negative changes for capital goods (-0.1 per cent), intermediate goods (-0.8 per cent) and consumer goods (-1.2 per cent). The sectors with the highest year-on-year increases were: electricity, gas, steam and air supply (+7.6 per cent); basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (+7.4 per cent); and the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical equipment, and electro-medical and measuring instruments (+2.4 per cent). The sharpest declines were seen in: manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-4.6 per cent), chemical products (-3.4 per cent) and electrical and non-electrical domestic appliances (-2.8 per cent).
