Ineos Grenadier becomes a military vehicle: agreement with the UK Ministry of Defence
The vehicle’s 4x4 platform has been incorporated into the UK Ministry of Defence’s Light Mobility programme as part of a collaboration on tactical vehicles, covering not only design but also engineering and the most advanced specialised manufacturing.
Ineos Automotive, SMT Defence and NMS UK are joining forces to form Team Grenadier, an all-British industrial consortium, with the aim of supplying the UK Ministry of Defence with a range of tactical vehicles based on the Ineos Grenadier platform. The partnership fully meets the requirements of the Light Mobility Vehicle programme, drawing on what is one of the world’s most advanced 4x4 platforms, with proven expertise in special operations and the integration of complex systems.
The Grenadier Team can, in fact, rely on a wholly British industrial supply chain of proven reliability, capable of ensuring operational effectiveness, supply chain continuity and guaranteed support throughout the vehicles’ entire service life. At the heart of the project is the Ineos Grenadier, a vehicle that can withstand even the most extreme conditions, designed to deliver top-level reliability and off-road performance.
Nine modular variants guaranteed by Granadier
The Grenadier Multi-Role Light Vehicle is one of the nine modular variants envisaged by the programme, all built on the Grenadier’s ladder-frame chassis and reinforced axles. The platform, which has already been extensively tested in demanding operational environments – from fire services to police forces, and from rescue units to specialist operators worldwide – offers first-class off-road mobility, proven durability and simple yet efficient maintenance: qualities that make it ideal for long-term military service.
SMT Defence also brings to the consortium specialist expertise in the design, integration and manufacture of bespoke vehicles for elite military units and special forces. The experience gained in modular architectures, high-load configurations and survivability solutions enables the platform to be adapted to the most demanding operational requirements, meeting them and often even exceeding them.
