"The school must be dynamic, it must experiment, innovate, connect with the outside world. We cannot expect it to function in the same way it did 20 years ago'. Francesca Barone, from 2019 headmistress of the Vespucci-Colombo technical-economic and professional institute in Livorno (1,400 students), sees the 4+2 experimentation not only as an alignment with the four-year school courses of other European countries, but above all as "an opportunity, and opportunities must be seized: I hope that motivated young people arrive, able to leave school stronger". The class that will begin classes on 16 September consists of around 20 technical-economic students, mostly male. The 4+2 course in Business Information Systems, which focuses on the world of logistics, is the result of agreements signed by the Vespucci-Colombo with the Its Isyl of Viareggio, which in Livorno has set up a course for logistics and intermodal technicians in collaboration with the North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority; with the Polo Sistemi Logistici (Logistics Systems Pole) of the University of Pisa; and with the Neri Group of Livorno, a leader in maritime services. "Lessons will be held from Monday to Friday," explains the headmistress, "with two afternoon breaks. In some hours there will be two teachers, so as to integrate the different disciplines: computer science, for example, will work with English. Internships and external interventions will be included in this timetable'. Nof course, each of the institutes and companies with which the project has been set up will contribute both in terms of human capital and in terms of welcoming students: "The Ptco courses (the school-to-work alternation, ed.) can begin as early as the second year of studies," Barone concludes, "and this will help the students to become familiar with work and can help them find their own path.
