Instagram and Facebook are down: here’s what’s happening with Meta’s platforms
Meta’s social media platforms were down this afternoon, with thousands of reports on other social media platforms and on Downdetector. Reports were also received on WhatsApp
by B.Sim.
Facebook and Instagram experienced login and browsing issues this afternoon for users in various parts of the world. The first reports emerged on social media, particularly on X, and were subsequently confirmed by an increase in reports of malfunctions collected by platforms specialising in monitoring online services.
The issue affects both the desktop version and the apps of the two social media platforms within the Meta group. In many cases, the site only loads partially or displays a 404 error message accompanied by the text “Page not found”, preventing access to the platform’s content and features.
The problems are said to have started in the early afternoon and affected users in several countries.
At present, no information has been provided regarding the causes of the disruption, nor is there any official indication of how long it will take to restore normal service. The tools used by users to check the service status also showed anomalies: the section dedicated to Facebook on Downdetector was temporarily unavailable, probably due to the high number of simultaneous visits and reports. Instagram also went down.
Meanwhile, as is usually the case in such situations, there has been a surge in user posts on X reporting difficulties accessing the platform, with the hashtags #facebookdown among the most widely used to share updates and gauge the extent of the disruption.
