There is certainly a lot of attention because Intel's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is expected to be received at the White House today, according to several sources.

Last week, US President Donald Trump called for the dismissal of the head of Intel because of his links to Chinese companies. "The CEO of Intel has a strong conflict of interest and must resign immediately. There is no other solution to this problem," Trump had written in a post on Truth Social on Thursday.

Tan is expected to have an in-depth talk with Trump to explain his personal and professional background, according to sources. He might also suggest opportunities for cooperation between the administration and Intel.

Tan hopes to win Trump's support by demonstrating his commitment to the US and promising to treat Intel's manufacturing capacity as a matter of national security, one of the sources said. Trump's decision to target Tan came a day after he exempted technology companies such as Apple from new tariffs on semiconductors on condition that they increase their investments in the US.

Tan was born in Malaysia and later became a US citizen. The investigation into his business dealings appears to be related to a recent development involving Cadence Design Systems, the company he led until 2021, as well as his venture capital firm's investments in Chinese companies.
