American writer and philosopher Noam Chomsky has been discharged from the hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he had been hospitalised since 11 June, undergoing treatment against the effects of the severe stroke that struck him in 2023. The Spanish news agency Efe writes this, citing the medical bulletin.
The announcement comes after news had spread of the death of the 95-year-old intellectual, later denied by his wife, Valeria Wasserman. Magazines such as Jacobin and The New Statesman had published obituaries, later withdrawn, and so did the Brazilian website Diario do Centro do Mundo after announcing the linguist's death.
The American sociologist and linguist is considered one of the world's most influential intellectuals and a critic of US politics.
