The new intermodal rail link between the Interporto della Toscana Centrale di Prato and the Terminal Darsena Toscana is born. It will be immediately used to transport mineral water from the Acqua Panna production site in Scarperia, in the province of Florence, to the port of Livorno. In detail: Logistica Uno and the Sanpellegrino Group have signed an agreement to optimise the reduction of CO2 emissions in the transport of Acqua Panna from the Scarperia (Fi) plant to the port of Livorno. The project, which represents a significant step towards environmental sustainability, was also realised thanks to the contribution of the Interporto di Prato and the logistics operator Logtainer, which recently started a new rail service for freight transport, connecting the Interporto della Toscana Centrale in Prato with the Terminal Darsena Toscana in Livorno.
1,500 trucks removed from the road
.In the initial phase, the new railway will move 25 containers on a weekly basis and, thanks to its 500-metre length, will be able to replace the equivalent of 1,500 trucks per year with a 12% reduction in CO2 emissions on the Scarperia-Livorno route. This will bring significant environmental benefits and a reduction in traffic, particularly on the congested Florence-Pisa-Livorno (Fi-Pi-Li) artery.
The long-term goal is to increase the full service to three full trains per week, corresponding to about 75 containers with a 36% reduction in CO2 emissions, thus creating a more efficient and usable connection for the Central Tuscany district. This initiative will not only contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, but will also reduce the number of trucks on the roads, improving air quality and road safety.
Water destined mainly for the United States and other international markets will be transported in containers by train that can be reused on return from the Port of Livorno for import, further optimising logistics. In this initiative, Logistica Uno confirms itself as a partner company of Sanpellegrino, promoter and coordinator of this innovative project.
This new rail link demonstrates the commitment of the companies involved to innovation and sustainability in the logistics sector, promoting solutions that improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. This initiative highlights how the synergy between Logistica Uno, Interporto Toscana, Logtainer and Gruppo Sanpellegrino is leading to innovative and sustainable logistics solutions that benefit the environment and operational efficiency.
