Interphone Era 1X: where technology meets style. Here’s how it works

Simple to use, easy to fit and attractive to look at. Not so long ago, having all these qualities in a single helmet intercom was almost unthinkable. You had to choose one feature or the other. The Interphone Era 1X solves this problem. It’s not just a device for talking or listening to music: it’s something that finally seems tailor-made for both the helmet and the motorcyclist, without spoiling the helmet’s design or driving the rider mad with complicated installation and setup procedures.

Unveiled for the first time at Eicma 2025, it was immediately clear what Interphone (part of the Cellularline group) was aiming for with its Era 1X: here, design comes first and foremost. And you realise this the moment you hold it in your hand. It’s a product with a thoroughly ‘made in Italy’ design, with great attention to detail. And indeed, it’s no coincidence that it won the Red Hot Award 2026. But it’s not just “beautiful”: it’s compact, lightweight (weighing just 50 grams), and practically disappears once fitted. And there are also four interchangeable covers (black, red, blue and white) to match it colour-wise to your helmet.

But an intercom also needs to sound good, because when you’re out on the road with the wind howling in your ears, a nice design is of little use if you can’t hear a thing. This is where the partnership with Harman Kardon comes into play. It’s not just a name thrown in for the sake of it: the sound is genuinely powerful. The 40 mm drivers deliver both bass and mid-range, even when you’re travelling fast and you think no sound – or your travelling companion’s voice – will reach your ears.

But the real highlight that the Era 1X brings to the table is its AI-powered noise cancellation. Whoever’s on the other end of the phone won’t even realise you’re on a motorbike – no background noise, no annoying ‘tunnel’ effect like in older models. And if you like multitasking, this is perfect for you: you can switch from music to sat-nav without any interruption.

Installation is really very simple: you can choose the plate fitted with a strong adhesive, or (preferably) the bracket that slots between the helmet shell and the padding. The Era 1X is compatible with any type of helmet. To demonstrate this, there are two types of microphone: a boom-style microphone for open-face and modular helmets, and a wired microphone for full-face helmets. There are four buttons of just the right size:  to answer calls, play music, activate Bluetooth, and the ‘special’ button engraved with an ‘M’ to manage the various options.
