Iran: US strikes on 140 targets; Tehran announces closure of the Strait of Hormuz
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The United States attacked Iran in the early hours of Sunday in response to an Iranian action against a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Iran launched attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and simultaneously announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until further notice. The US Central Command stated that it had struck around 140 targets, including missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots, communications equipment and other sites. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed “until further notice” after several vessels attempted to navigate an unauthorised route through the Strait, which will remain closed “until the end of US operations in the region”.
