Iran’s chief negotiator, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that Iran “has no choice but to rely on its own strength and become stronger”, adding that the United States “seeks to target Iran and promote its own interests whenever it has the opportunity”. This was reported by Al-Jazeera. “This is not limited to war, negotiations or just the current US president,” he said in a statement posted on social media. “Our approach to war or negotiations must be based on national interests and security, and must be realistic and forward-looking; consequently, we have no choice but to rely on our own strength and become stronger”
Media: Proposal for Italian monitoring emerges from Lebanon-Israel talks
According to sources at the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper, during the talks between Israel and Lebanon, which took place in Rome, it was proposed that Italian troops be deployed to the areas from which the IDF is to withdraw, in order to monitor the demilitarisation of the zone and clear it of Hezbollah’s weapons and terrorists. During the meetings, a proposal was also put forward to have the mechanism overseen by UNIFIL, but both Israel and the United States firmly opposed this. It was at this point that the ‘Italian proposal’ emerged. Israeli defence sources have stated that “the proposal is currently under consideration by the parties”.

Descalzi: New Hormuz blockade changes the global energy landscape
“We find ourselves in a situation, from an energy perspective, where the price has obviously not yet signalled this as a major problem, because around 400 million barrels of reserves – from OECD countries – have been released onto the market, and this has helped keep prices within a range of between 90 and 100 dollars.” This was stated by Eni’s chief executive, Claudio Descalzi, during a hearing before the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee on Productive Activities. “With the signing of the agreement (with Iran, ed.), there was a drop to $68, but we’ve now returned to around 85,” said Descalzi. “Obviously, this is because there was no positive follow-up to that signing; since the 11th, not a single ship has passed through the Strait, so there is a new blockade. This changes the state of affairs; it changes it for Europe, and in this case, it changes it on a global scale.”
