Iran: talks in Switzerland suspended for “internal consultations”
Delegation considers ‘official protest’ following Trump’s threats
The first session of the ongoing peace talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland, with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, has been suspended for “internal consultations”. This has been reported by some Iranian media outlets. According to Iranian television, the session focused on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding and the situation in Lebanon, and no negotiations took place regarding Iran’s nuclear programme. However, according to reports on social media by the Iranian television broadcaster Press TV, the Iranian delegation is said to have lodged “an official protest” with its US counterparts following the threats contained in Donald Trump’s latest statements, and is reportedly considering “options for an appropriate response”.
