Iran is asking the US to provide guarantees "on the removal of sanctions" on Tehran, says Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei. The spokesman referred to the latest proposal made by the US to Tehran on the complete halt of uranium enrichment by Iran, stressing that no proposal will receive a positive response from Iran if it contains extreme and radical demands and ignores national rights and interests.

"The fact that we received the proposal does not mean we accepted it. We will give an appropriate response," he added, stressing that "Iran insists on enrichment of uranium. We are also seeking the effective lifting of sanctions, however the US side has not yet clarified the issue. We insist that these issues be considered in any agreement'.

Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Minister and chief nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi will meet with IEA Director Rafael Grossi in Cairo, along with his Egyptian colleague Badr Abdelatty. The meeting comes after the publication of a UN agency report showing that Iran has increased its production of enriched uranium to 60%, a level close to the 90% needed to produce nuclear weapons. During his visit, Araghchi will also meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
