Iran: Araghchi says any interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz will heighten tensions
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Any interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz risks “escalating tensions” in the region. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi following the US strikes on Iranian targets – in response to the attack on a Panamanian oil tanker attributed to Iran – and Tehran’s retaliation with missiles and drones targeting Kuwait and Bahrain.
“Iran wants to ‘defend its national sovereignty’,” said the minister, who condemned the US actions “against various surveillance and control installations on the southern coast”. Kuwait, according to reports from international news agencies, has denounced “Iran’s repeated and heinous acts of aggression” which “undermine” attempts to end the war in the Middle East and has condemned a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty. In Bahrain, the army announced that it had “intercepted and destroyed a number of projectiles used in these treacherous Iranian attacks”.
