Iran: Ghalibafi says the Strait of Hormuz will be administered by us
Tehran has reiterated its determination to maintain control of the Strait of Hormuz, following the conclusion of the round of negotiations with the United States in Switzerland. The talks have laid “solid foundations for reaching a positive final agreement”, US Vice-President J.D. Vance said yesterday, ahead of the two-month suspension of US sanctions on Iranian oil. The US official, together with Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, left Buergenstock after an 18-hour marathon session, whilst diplomats continue their “technical” discussions. Ghalibaf reiterated that conditions in the Strait of Hormuz will not return to pre-war levels and that the waterway will remain “administered by Iran”, according to the IRNA news agency. An agreement has also been reached on the “immediate” release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, “in two instalments of $6 billion each”.
