Mass funeral in Beirut for Hezbollah military leader killed by Israel
Hezbollah will celebrate the funeral of its top military leader Haytham Ali Tabatabai and other members of the Lebanese Shia movement today, in the aftermath of the Israeli attack that killed them in Beirut.
The IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, announced on Sunday evening the removal of several officers for their role in the 7 October 2023 failures.
Most of the commanders who were dismissed had already resigned from the Idf, making Zamir's moves largely symbolic.
The Times of Israel reports that Zamir removed:
1)the former head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, Major General (Reserve) Aharon Haliva, who had announced his resignation in April 2024 and was then replaced in August of the same year;
2) the former head of the Operations Directorate, Major General Oded Basiuk, who resigned from the army at the end of his term in July;
3) the former head of the Southern Command, Major General Yaron Finkelman, who announced his resignation in January, before being replaced in March.
Katz freezes Idf appointments and orders review of report 7 October
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced the freezing of senior IDF appointments for 30 days to review the 7 October report on the army's failures, presented earlier this month by a commission headed by retired General Sami Turgeman.
This was reported in the Israeli media. Katz instructed the defence system auditor, retired General Yair Volanski, to review the document, including the need for further verification in areas that the IDF had not been addressed by the commission. The conclusions are to be submitted within 30 days.
