Israel: Italia, France, Germany and the UK say West Bank tenders are unacceptable

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - “The Israeli government’s decision to issue tenders for construction as part of the E1 settlement project” in the West Bank “is unacceptable”. So stated the leaders of France, Germany, Italia and the United Kingdom in a joint statement. “The international community has long opposed this expansion of settlements and has expressed its grave concerns both privately and publicly. The E1 settlement will undermine the prospect of a two-state solution, creating a divide in the West Bank and jeopardising the territorial contiguity of the Palestinian Territories,” the statement reads, emphasising that ‘international law clearly establishes that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal. This is the position of the international community, reaffirmed by the United Nations Security Council’.
