Israel, NGOs: Government stops registration measures to protect humanitarian aid
Joint communiqué 53 international NGOs following the official notification on 30 December received by 37 organisations that their registrations would expire the next day
"International humanitarian organisations operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory warn that recent registration measures introduced by Israel risk halting the operations of International NGOs just as civilians face acute and widespread humanitarian needs, despite the ceasefire in Gaza."
This is what 53 international NGOs said in a joint statement following the official notification on 30 December received by 37 organisations that their registrations would expire the following day.
As of this date, a 60-day period began, at the end of which the NGOs would be obliged to cease operations in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
"We call on the Government of Israel to immediately cease registration cancellation procedures and to reverse measures that hinder humanitarian assistance," the note reads. "We urge donor governments to use all their influence to ensure the suspension and cancellation of these actions. Independent and principled humanitarian operations must be protected so that civilians can receive the urgent assistance they need, according to the NGO writer.
Then, the summary of the interventions: from healthcare - where the cancellation of registration would lead to the immediate closure of about one third of the health facilities - to food security for which NGOs provided more than half of all assistance in 2024, including most of the distribution points for ready meals.
