Consultations with the Israeli President are expected to begin this week. The new Knesset’s first sitting will take place on 10 November.
The Arab political parties the Joint List (11 seats) and Ra’am (8 seats) are expected to propose Gadi Eisenkot for the post of Prime Minister during consultations with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. A senior member of the Joint List reported this to the Israeli website Walla.
Arab political groups are seen as key to the formation of the new government in Israel following the election result.
Consultations with the Israeli President are expected to begin this week. The first sitting of the new Knesset will take place on 10 November.
According to Ynet, Gadi Eisenkot is considering the option of a minority government relying on external support from both the Islamic Ra’am party (8 seats) and the Ashkenazi ultra-Orthodox party United Judaism (7 seats), which is considering ending its long-standing alliance with Netanyahu.
Without the support of the ultra-Orthodox party for Netanyahu, the current coalition would have 46 seats, giving Eisenkot the edge over whoever is entrusted with the task of forming a government following consultations with the Head of State, Herzog.
