In August 2025 inflation fell to 1.6% from 1.7% in July, with consumer prices growing by 0.1% on a monthly basis. This was announced by Istat, confirming preliminary estimates and emphasising that the drop in inflation was mainly due to the fall in energy goods prices (-4.8% from -3.4% in July). On the other hand, prices in the food sector accelerated (+3.8% from +3.7%), due to the increase in the rate of growth of prices of unprocessed products (+5.6% from +5.1%) partially offset by the slight slowdown in those of processed products (+2.7% from +2.8%).
Last month the shopping trolley became more expensive for Italians. In August, in fact, there was an acceleration on an annual basis in the prices of food, household and personal care goods, rising from +3.2% to +3.4%. ISTAT points out that the prices of high-frequency goods, on the other hand, maintained the same trend growth rate (+2.3%). Core inflation also rose, albeit modestly: +2.1% from +2.0%.
