In the second quarter of 2025, the Italian GDP, adjusted for calendar effects and seasonally adjusted, decreased by 0.1 per cent compared to the previous quarter, while it grew by 0.4 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2024. Negative impact of foreign demand, flat consumption
The slight decline in GDP in the second quarter of 2025 was due to zero contributions from consumption by households and private social institutions (PSIs) and government spending, positive contributions from investment of 0.2 percentage points (with growth over the previous quarter of 1%) and the change in inventories of 0.4 points, against a negative contribution from net foreign demand of 0.7 points. Imports increased by 0.4 % and exports decreased by 1.7 %. On the value-added side, both agriculture, forestry and fishing declined by 0.6% and industry by 0.3%, while services were stationary.
