Istat: April employment rate rises to 63.1 % (+0.3 points)
The increase in the number of employed persons (+0.5%, or +123,000) involves men, women, employees, the self-employed and all age groups with the exception of 35-49 year olds, for whom the number of employed persons is essentially stable. The employment rate rose to 63.1% (+0.3 points)
Istat published the provisional estimate of the employed and unemployed in April. In April 2026, on a monthly basis, the growth in the employed was associated with a decrease in the unemployed and inactive.
The increase in the number of employed persons (+0.5%, or +123,000) involves men, women, employees, the self-employed and all age groups with the exception of 35-49 year-olds, for whom the number of employed persons is substantially stable. The employment rate rose to 63.1% (+0.3 points).
The drop in the number of jobseekers (-1.3%, equal to -18 thousand) is observed for men and women and for all age groups with the exception of 35-49 year-olds, among whom the unemployed are on the rise. The unemployment rate dropped to 5.1% (-0.1 points), the youth rate 16.9% (-0.8 points).
The decrease in the number of inactive persons between 15 and 64 years of age (-0.8% or -102 thousand) affects both sexes and all age groups. The inactivity rate dropped to 33.4% (-0.3 points).
Comparing the quarter February-April 2026 with the previous quarter (November 2025-January 2026) shows an increase of 108,000 persons employed (+0.4 %).
