Istat: in September +67 thousand employed compared to August. Unemployment rate rises to 6.1%

In September, there was an increase in the number of employed people of 67 thousand units (+0.3%) on a monthly basis and 176 thousand units (+0.7%) on an annual basis. This was announced by Istat, adding that, on a monthly basis, the employment rate rose to 62.7%. "The number of employed people, equal to 24 million 221 thousand, is up compared to the previous month. Permanent employees increased (16 million 551 thousand), those on fixed-term contracts decreased (2 million 466 thousand) and the self-employed were substantially stable (5 million 204 thousand)," the Institute of Statistics underlined.
Youth unemployment rate rises to 20.6%
The unemployment rate rose to 6.1% (+0.1 points), the youth unemployment rate to 20.6% (+0.9 points). The increase in the number of jobseekers (+2.0%, or +31,000) was observed among men, 15-34 year olds and among those aged 50 and over, while among 35-49 year olds and women the number of unemployed decreased. Employment on a trend basis
Employment also increased compared to September 2024 (+176 thousand employed in one year), summarising the growth in permanent employees (+417 thousand) and the self-employed (+76 thousand) and the decline in fixed-term employees (-317 thousand).
