Istat, trade balance: a surplus of €4.29 billion in April, €15.2 billion over four months
Exports rose by 8.8% year-on-year, while imports rose by 5.5%
In April, Italy’s trade balance recorded a surplus of €4.293 billion, up from €2.448 billion in the same month of 2025. This was reported by Istat, which noted that the energy deficit (-€5.169 billion) is higher than a year earlier (-€4.219 billion) whilst the surplus in trade in non-energy products rose from €6.667 billion in April 2025 to €9.462 billion in the same month of 2026.
In April, Italian exports rose by 8.8% year-on-year in value and by 3.5% in volume, whilst imports increased by 5.5% in value and 3.6% in volume. On a month-on-month basis, exports fell by 2.2% and imports by 0.6%. In the first four months of the year, Italia’s trade surplus stood at €15.2 billion, up from the first four months of 2025 (+€11.3 billion).
