Byd's K-Car for the Japanese market is called Racco
Previewed ahead of its official debut at the Tokyo show, it will go on sale in the summer of 2026 at a price starting at 2.6 million yen, or about $17,000.
The Racco, that's the name of Byd's K-Car, aims to compete with local brand models. Among the first to comment on the Chinese brand's offer was the president of Suzuki Motor, who described the one with Byd as an important challenge that comes at a time when Japanese consumers' psychological barriers to Chinese products are gradually lowering. He also hoped that the Chinese brand would avoid engaging in price competition.
Featuring a compact, squared-off exterior, the Racco has a front end with a closed grille and daytime running lights that integrate the direction indicators. The car has a double front pillar structure, a small triangular front window and a float-shaped roof. It also has a four-door configuration, the rear doors sliding. The side windows at the rear are blacked out and the rear of the Racco includes vertically arranged lights, a rear window wiper, plus a number plate.
The dimensions are within the Japanese kei car regulations that limit the length to 3,400 mm, the width to 1,480 mm and the height to 2,000 mm. The powertrain is, on the other hand, entrusted to an electric propulsion system with a 20 kWh battery pack that will guarantee an estimated range of about 180 km. The car has heat pump air conditioning and supports direct current fast charging up to 100 kW. The competitors? Honda M-Box, Suzuki Spacia and Nissan Sakura.
