Italia working to welcome more students from Gaza
The group includes the 38 university students benefiting from a scholarship at Milano Statale
Key points
Italia is working to conduct new operations to evacuate students from Gaza. The new operations are aimed at further reaching out to the young inhabitants of the Strip, including the 38 students reported by the University of Milan who are beneficiaries of scholarships at the university. This was announced by Farnesina.
The possible way out
Considering that at the state of the art, by indication of the Jordanian and Israeli governments, the channel that has so far allowed 157 students to be evacuated from Gaza in the period September-December 2025 alone is blocked, the Embassy of Italia in Amman is exploring new alternatives with the Jordanian authorities, including that of reactivating the 'university runners'.
In addition, the possibility of activating additional channels to the Iupals programme (Italian Universities Palestinian Students) is being assessed, in light of the 165 total requests received by the Consulate General in Jerusalem, not all of which can be attributed to the Iupals programme.
The Iupals Programme
It is an initiative promoted by Crui to enable Palestinian students to continue their academic studies at Italian universities. Together with the Farnesina, four operations were carried out: 39 students on 29 September, 49 on 22 October, 61 in the evacuations of 19 and 24 November and, lastly, 8 students on 15 December.
