Air transport: an all-time Italian record – 8,446 flights in a single day

Increasingly busy skies and a new record for civil air traffic in Italia: on Sunday 26 July a new all-time record was set for the number of flights in a single day, with 8,446 flights. The announcement was made by Enav, the company that provides civil air navigation services and manages air traffic control within Italia’s airspace.

The previous record was 8,340 flights, set on 27 July 2025. This result marks the culmination of a summer season characterised, to date, by exceptional traffic volumes: in fact, in the preceding weeks, the 2025 record had already been surpassed on three separate occasions: on 12 July with 8,350 flights , on 17 July with 8,392 and on 18 July with 8,430 , leading up to the new record of 8,446 flights on 26 July, which, according to forecasts, represents the peak for the year. Estimates suggest, however, that the 2025 record could be broken again on other days in August.

In 2025, ENAV managed 2.4 million flights in Italian airspace. This is an all-time record that could be broken in 2026.
