Gdf: Italian doctor falsely claimed to be resident in Monte Carlo: €1.3 million concealed from the tax authorities
Assets worth 800,000 euros have been seized. Undeclared payments for services in five Italian cities were channelled into a trust
He was registered as living in Monte Carlo but saw patients at his practices in Genoa, Imperia, Milan and Rome, collecting payment for consultations in cash (an average of 200 euros per session) without issuing receipts. The money was set aside in a trust based in the province of Genoa and then transferred to Italian and Monegasque bank accounts. A portion was eventually transferred to accounts held by companies linked to the doctor himself, based in the Principality of Monaco. In this way, the Italian doctor managed to collect over 1.3 million euros between 2018 and 2023. The Guardia di Finanza managed to uncover his activities by cross-referencing data on Italian citizens residing abroad with its domestic financial monitoring programme.
Officers from the Genoa Provincial Command have seized 800,000 euros, acting on an order issued by the investigating magistrate of the Court of Genoa at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The alleged offences include failure to file tax returns, concealment of accounting documents, self-laundering and fraudulent evasion of tax payments. Three properties, two garages and two warehouses across Liguria and Sardinia have been seized. The doctor had sold a property he owned in order to purchase a villa in Dubai.
