There are images that say it all, more than long speeches. That of the two Italian tennis teams in Malaga in front of their respective cups, the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup, is one of them. It tells the story of success at the end of a journey, of the coming together of teams, of individual talents.
He points to the leadership, that of Jasmine Paolini (world number 4 after an extraordinary year) and that of Jannik Sinner (who needs no explanation: he has been at the top of the Atp ranking since 10 June). He recalls the exciting debut of those who had not yet played (Lucia Bronzetti, two precious points, hers) and the great comebacks (Matteo Berrettini: supporter from the bench last year, protagonist on the court this year). It shows the smiles of those who were defeated (Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Lorenzo Musetti), because the fellowship and joy of the goal go far beyond the single performance. It suggests the strength and integration of several generations (the experience of Sara Errani and Simone Bolelli, two over 30, alongside 20-year-olds of today and tomorrow). It tells us that two groups without a guide are not complete: the choices of Tathiana Garbin and Filippo Volandri were all right. It projects us into an Italy where tennis can become an increasingly popular sport (the Federation believes in it and is betting on it).
An image that, in the end, is an injection of confidence: the best proof that hard work, tenacity and unity reward and are an example to all.
