Kaufland's marketplace arrives in Italy. Towards the end of the summer kaufland.it, a catalogue showcase that will have millions of products divided into more than 6,400 categories, will be online. The goods are offered by thousands of international sellers, more than 11,000 to date, and will benefit from a new platform for selling their products, while Italian customers will have access to a wide range of offers from international sellers. In fact, this platform made in Eu will compete directly with Amazon, considering that it is already present in Germany, Austria and other Eastern European countries.
Behind the project is Kaufland, a German food retail giant with a commercial presence of 1,550 branches in 8 countries in the old continent. Kaufland is part of the Schwarz Group, a leading multinational retail company with more than 13,9000 outlets, ranging from Lidl discounters to Kaufland hypermarkets, with 575,000 employees in 32 countries. Turnover 2023, the latest available data, records sales of 167.2 billion euros.
"The launch of our marketplace in Italy represents an important milestone in the expansion path we have embarked on and allows us to tap the potential to become the largest online platform in Europe," explains Gerald Schönbucher, Member of the Board of Management of Kaufland e-commerce. "Entirely conceived in Europe, for Europe. Our generalist marketplace presents itself as an alternative to the big e-commerce giants and will soon offer Italian customers an extraordinary shopping experience, accompanied by a wide selection of international products at attractive prices. After consolidating our presence in markets such as Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria, we are excited to announce the arrival of our marketplace in Italy as well. After landing in Italy, Schönbucher plans to enter France, the third largest e-commerce market in Europe.
How it works
cooperates with online dealers who offer their articles under their own name on Kaufland's international marketplaces. For each article, in addition to price and product information, customers can also find all details about the retailer, presented clearly and transparently. Customers receive the goods directly from the dealer. If they have questions about articles or orders, they can contact Kaufland Customer Service, which is available in Italian via hotline or contact form. Right from the start, customers can choose between the main payment options, including PayPal, "buy now, pay later" or credit card solutions. Online retailers have the option of registering with Kaufland's marketplace right from the start. Moreover, with a single registration, they will be able to sell their products not only in Italy, but also on all of the German company's other marketplaces.
