The partnership agreement to build Colosseum, a supercomputer destined to become the most powerful AI computing centre in Italy, was signed on stage at the third edition of Investopia Europe, in Milan.
It was signed by G42, a leading artificial intelligence group based in Abu Dhabi, through its subsidiary Core42, and iGenius, a pioneer in artificial intelligence models for highly regulated industries. The agreement "reflects the growing momentum of synergy between the two countries, in line with the vision of the leaders of the two countries to promote innovation, stimulate economic growth and create shared value through advanced technology and knowledge exchange," the signatories explained in a note. The partnership comes in the wake of the bilateral agreements signed in February between the United Arab Emirates and Italy.
L’intesa
The signing took place in the presence of several institutional representatives, including Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of the Economy of the Eau and President of Investopia, and Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy.
'This agreement, which will lead to the construction of a supercomputer in our country,' said Urso, 'marks a decisive step in relations with the United Arab Emirates, confirming and enhancing both Italy's leading role in the development of AI at global level, and our contribution to European AI. There is a strong chance that Puglia will host this significant investment, but the collaboration of all local institutions will be crucial to guarantee the energy support necessary for its operation. Italy is on the right track and is building its industrial future with vision through strategic alliances and cooperation in emerging technologies'.
The goal of the partnership is the realisation of a high-performance GPU cluster, powered by thousands of Nvidia Blackwell GPUs: a key milestone to enable sovereign AI infrastructures dedicated to the European market, made possible through Colosseum's contribution of iGenius, the first data centre with over 100 Exaflops of computing capacity, designed specifically for sovereign AI workloads.
The pan-European AI expansion will be led and managed by Core42, a G42 Group company specialising in sovereign cloud, AI infrastructure and digital services. iGenius is redefining the digital landscape through Colosseum.
