The Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka confirms itself as a meeting place for international cultures and a precious showcase for Made in Italy. It could not miss the contribution of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy in proposing to visitors the "know-how" and the ability to innovate of Italy and its companies. What better than an exhibition that, through patents and industrial inventions, can tell the story of Italy's ability to innovate by comparing different generations of creators: those who individually filed their inventions in the early days and those who today, increasingly numerous, work in multidisciplinary teams within universities, research centres and start-ups. Hence the exhibition 'The Italy of Patents. Successful Inventions and Innovations" by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT), inaugurated inside the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, in the presence of Deputy Minister Valentino Valentini and the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Amb. Mario Vattani.
"Italy, the cradle of innovation that protects and valorises intellectual property as an authentic passport to our know-how in the world, finds in the initiatives we are taking to Osaka not only the celebration of its past but the stimulus for a profound reflection on how the protection of creative genius represents the strategic key to increasing our present and future competitiveness," said Deputy Minister Valentino Valentini.
The exhibition represents a summary of the more than 100 patents that were exhibited in Rome from 18 November to 2 April 2025: there is also a multimedia contribution that recalls all the innovations already on display at Palazzo Piacentini. In addition to the exhibition, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, in collaboration with Invitalia and Netval, presented the 11 winners of the Intellectual Property Awards (6 winners of the IPA Award and 5 winners of the Female Entrepreneurship Award), Italian excellences in the field of technological innovation and patent development. Along with Deputy Minister Valentini, the following spoke at the event: Maria Chiara di Guardo, Vice President of Netval; Ernesto Somma, Head of Investment Management Unit at Invitalia; and Federico Novembrini, Head of Knowledge Share (Netval).
The 'Intellectual Property Award' is the competition reserved for Italian universities, national public research organisations and institutes for hospitalisation and scientific care that hold patents. The aim of the initiative is to highlight the strong innovative potential of the national public research system and its contribution to technological progress and economic growth, as evidenced by the scientific results achieved and protected by the filing of patents.
"The collaboration with the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy is strategic to promote the production chains and attract Japanese investments in our country, taking advantage of the global stage represented by the Expo," said Amb. Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka. "From the Made in Italy Day to the exhibition L'Italia dei brevetti, up to the Intellectual Property Awards: many are the initiatives and tools to make Italian excellence a protagonist, involving experts, companies and representatives of the various production chains."
