On the hypothesis of the sale of Iveco 'it is my intention to convene the trade unions in the next few days in order to discuss production and employment prospects together. We are following closely, we are always in contact with the company'. So says the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, speaking on Radio24 on the programme "Friends and enemies". "We have shown in these almost three years, in a continuous confrontation, that we know how to manage transitions and we will use the powers conferred on us where necessary. We will evaluate together if there is a proposal to divest,' adds Urso.
The minister also spoke on other issues: 'The negotiation' on tariffs 'is complex and must be finalised as soon as possible. At the same time, we need to understand how the US negotiation with other non-European countries is finalised in order to understand the export potential of our products on other markets, and to assess any compensation, which in my opinion must necessarily be European,' he said.
For Urso, 'the measures, in order to be effective, must be targeted, and to be targeted will only be understood at the end of the negotiations'.
Free Enterprises
."The real action we are asking the EU to take," Urso added on tariffs, "is to get rid of internal tariffs that are choking our companies" generated by the "green deal madness" and that "are far heavier than any American measures". So, said Urso, 'regardless of how the negotiations end, we want Europe to move'. And in any case on the negotiations between the EU and the United States on tariffs, the minister explained, 'it is necessary to support the European Commission so that the negotiations go ahead with an agreement that is truly fair and sustainable'.
The future of the former Ilva
.Having received the go-ahead on the environmental impact of the steel plant and averted closure in the coming days, the minister dwelt on the future of the former Ilva. "The new operator will already present a new AIA request in early August for three electric furnaces that will gradually replace the three blast furnaces," explained the minister for Enterprise and Italian products. On Thursday, 17 July, the Services Conference gave the authorisation for production: 'We have taken responsibility with the technical bodies, which have provided for a series of health measures,' to grant the necessary authorisation so as not to close the plant. "It is a transitional AIA," Urso reiterated, "because we want to launch the decarbonisation plan presented to the local authorities. The plan calls for the reactivation of the blast furnaces to reach a production of 6 million tonnes by March 2026. 'In the meantime,' the minister added, 'we will be able to assign them to a new investor, who will have to present a plan that corresponds to our decarbonisation plan.
