On the horizon, something is beginning to move, although still, the European Just transition fund in Sulcis and Taranto is travelling at a slow pace and the dowry of more than one billion euro remains to be spent.
In this race against time, Sulcis is just ahead of Puglia. Precisely in Sardinia, by January, some developments regarding the plan on which work has been underway for some years may be seen. The picture, in which delays and bureaucratic red tape emerge, was drawn at the meeting of the Monitoring Committee on the state of the Jtf held in Iglesias in recent days.
In total, there is more than one billion euro to spend: 367 million for Sulcis and 800 million for Taranto. And now we are trying to make up for lost time.
Sulcis: in January the first rankings
."In January, the ranking list will be published for the ten projects for the environmental reclamation of polluted areas" in former mining areas, says Pietro Morittu, mayor of Carbonia. These are interventions for the remediation of sites where there is a high concentration of contaminating materials from mining residues from the first half of the 20th century. A total of EUR 145 million has been earmarked, and must therefore be spent, to support the tenders. With the rankings, the amounts allocated to each project will become known.
Renewable Energy
The second aspect concerns the Energy Communities. 'Starting in the new year,' Morittu continues, 'calls for tenders will be prepared, in which administrations will be able to participate. It is clear that it will be necessary to speed up planning and interventions in order to respect the dates, even if on some projects there could be a shift of the deadlines to 2029'. Small municipalities in particular are having to deal with red tape and bureaucracy. It is no coincidence that, as Michele Palma, head of the Department for Cohesion Policies, pointed out, 'Invitalia has been put at the disposal of small municipalities to make the calls for tenders. This support should allow the deadlines to be met by 2026.
