Philips’ AI-powered MRI scanner makes its debut at JMedical in Turin
The 200th installation of the BlueSeal range of low-helium-consumption machines – ‘Combining innovation, clinical performance, quality of care and sustainability’.
The Philips BlueSeal MRI scanner has arrived at Jmedical, Juventus’ diagnostic centre; it is the first in Italia to feature built-in artificial intelligence capabilities and a low-helium operating system. As the club explains in a statement, this is “an initiative that embodies a shared vision aimed at combining technological innovation, the pursuit of clinical excellence, quality of care and sustainability”.
The installation also marks another significant milestone: it is the 200th Philips MRI scanner, part of a family of MRI systems featuring the low-helium BlueSeal magnet - they use just 7 litres of helium, resulting in a total saving over time of 740,000 litres of the gas and over 1.17 million kg of CO₂ – representing a reduction in helium consumption compared with the previous generation of Philips MRI scanners.

According to Gino Carnazza, Technical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at J|medical, “Philips’ new 1.5-tesla BlueSeal MRI scanner, equipped with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence software, enables high-quality images to be obtained in significantly shorter scan times. This results in highly reliable diagnoses whilst ensuring a high level of patient comfort.”
At the heart of the BlueSeal family is a fully sealed magnet that uses only around 7 litres of helium, compared with the approximately 1,500 litres required by conventional systems. This solution eliminates the need for refills throughout the equipment’s entire life cycle and helps to conserve a strategic resource for numerous healthcare and scientific applications. This engineering design also makes the system more resilient, as even in the event of a power cut, the MRI scanner can resume operation without the need for any special procedures.
