Elena Pero, Sky’s long-standing tennis commentator, has died

The world of sports journalism is in mourning. Elena Pero, the most recognisable voice of Italian tennis on television, has died at the age of 60. Sky Sport reports the news. For over twenty years, she was Sky Sport’s leading face and voice for tennis, almost always alongside former tennis player Paolo Bertolucci for more than 20 years. “She never missed a commentary, not even whilst she was ill.”

The last time we heard her – just like you at home – was at Wimbledon, where she celebrated Jannik Sinner’s second consecutive victory, just as she had done on that historic first occasion – on 13 July 2025 – alongside Paolo Bertolucci, who, over more than 20 years of commentating together, formed the second formidable partnership of her career”, according to the Sky Sport website.

She has left us, just as Rino Tommasi and Gianni Clerici did. We will never stop listening to you. And we will never stop remembering you, dear Elena. Although we at Sky Sport will never be the same again, we promise that we will do everything we can to be worthy of what you have left us, of your example. And of you. A pure soul, a decent person, an exemplary journalist, a wonderful colleague. A great, unforgettable voice,” he concludes.
