Jsw: Mimit, agreement reached on the revitalisation of the Piombino industrial complex
148 million plan. Workforce to remain unchanged
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - An agreement has been reached at the Ministry of Economic Development (Mimit) with JSW regarding the revitalisation of the historic steelworks in Piombino. The Ministry of Economic Development has announced this in a statement.
The Programme Agreement sets out the agreed framework for the implementation of the site’s business plan and for the full protection of workers’ jobs.
JSW’s plan involves modernising the rail rolling mill, including the refurbishment of existing facilities, the installation of new technologies and a research and development project aimed at introducing the best available technological solutions. The total investment amounts to €148.2 million and will be partly funded by public subsidies from the Mimit.
“Following on from the commitments made by Minister Urso during his recent visit to Piombino – the statement reads – during which he held discussions with representatives of the trade unions, the agreement provides for the retention of the entire workforce currently employed by the Indian group, including workers at Gsi Lucchini and Piombino Logistics”.
