A purchase order for up to eight thousand tonnes of Italian tobacco per year over the next three years. This is the agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Jti, one of the largest producers of tobacco and vaping products worldwide, with brands such as Winston and Ploom.
Jti: 'Italy is an example'
"With this new agreement," said Didier Ellena, president and CEO of Jti Italia, which has been investing in the country for more than 20 years. "We want to offer stability and perspective to the sector, strengthening the ability to plan long-term investments and guaranteeing economic solidity to the companies and the workers employed in them."
"We believe that open and concrete dialogue between industry and institutions is the key to ensuring a future of excellence for the entire supply chain. In this sense, Italy represents an example of balance and pragmatism. We are confident that the same approach can be adopted in the future, in the face of the upcoming regulatory challenges at European level'.
"Italian tobacco industry excellence"
The undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Patrizio La Pietra, stressed that 'the tobacco sector represents an Italian excellence, which today needs new tools to face an increasingly competitive environment. Innovation, skills enhancement and targeted investments are the levers through which to guarantee stability and growth prospects to a sector that involves hundreds of companies and thousands of workers',
And, therefore, the agreement represents "an important step in this direction. It is a concrete commitment to strengthening the national supply chain, supporting companies and creating the conditions for continuous and lasting development'. The ministry 'will continue to work alongside the sector's operators to foster a competitive production model, capable of combining tradition, quality and technological innovation
