Kate Middleton , Princess of Wales, is in hospital in London where she underwent 'successful' surgery on her abdomen yesterday. This was reported by British court sources to the media, without specifying the exact nature of the operation undergone by the consort of the heir to the throne William but only specifying that it was a planned surgery. According to the BBC, 'it is clear from the length of time he is expected to be in hospital and the tone of the statement issued that his medical condition is serious'. At the same time, Kensington Palace is said to have clarified that her condition is not cancer-related. The princess is expected to stay in hospital for 15 days after the operation and then continue her post-operative recovery with her family.

Sources point out that the princess is not expected to return to official duties 'until Easter'. However, the exact nature of the surgery the princess underwent is closely guarded. According to several British newspapers citing sources inside Buckingham Palace including the Times, the Guardian and the Daily Mail, it is not cancer.
