Kelly Curtis, actress, documentary filmmaker and eldest daughter of Hollywood stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, died on Saturday 30 May at the age of 69 in Bellevue, Idaho. Announcing her passing was her younger sister, Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, in an emotional message posted on social media.
The farewell
"A warm 'aloha' to my big sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away this morning. In her home. In the midst of nature. At peace. She was my first friend and confidante all my life. She was breathtakingly beautiful and a very talented actress. She was a fearsome opponent in Hearts, collected turtles, loved her family, nature, music, flea markets, travel, Facebook and Pokémon Go. She was proud of her Danish roots and Hungarian-Jewish ancestry and was a deeply devoted American patriot." Her sister added: "She will be remembered for her loving generosity, her strong opinions, her inexhaustible curiosity, her unique style, and for her almond and icing sugar crescent Christmas biscuits, by which she was known as 'Aunt Cookie'. Kelly always ended every message or greeting with a Hungarian blessing: 'Isten Veled', meaning 'God be with you'. isten Veled' to my sister of the sun and moon, my Tai. I will see you again along the way'.
The path to success
Born in Santa Monica, California, on 17 June 1956, Kelly Lee Curtis was the daughter of two American film icons. She made her screen debut at a very young age in the film 'The Vikings' (1958), alongside her parents. After studies in economics and a stint as a stockbroker, she decided to devote herself to acting, training at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and becoming a member of the Actors Studio. In the course of his career, he took part in numerous film and television productions. His best-known roles include an appearance alongside his sister in 'An Armchair for Two' (1983), the lead role in the German comedy 'Magic Sticks' (1987) and the role in the Italia horror film 'The Sect' (1991), written and produced by Dario Argento and directed by Michele Soavi. On the small screen he appeared in successful television series such as 'The Equalizer', 'Silk Stalkings', 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and 'Judging Amy'. Between 1996 and 1999, she also played Lieutenant Carolyn Plummer in the first season of the series 'Sentinel'.
