Ukraine strikes military factory near Moscow: 6 dead. Russian air raid on Kyiv: ten dead

This is the third Ukrainian attack on facilities belonging to the company, which is very popular in Russia and nicknamed ‘the Amazon of Russia’.

A day of intense fighting, casualties and shelling on both sides. From the early hours of the morning, the Kremlin reported that it had intercepted nearly 600 Ukrainian drones during the night, whilst also claiming responsibility for attacks on the Ukrainian ports of Odessa, Izmail and Nikolaev.

The Ministry of Defence in Moscow reported that “the Russian armed forces have continued to carry out coordinated attacks using precision-guided air weapons and attack drones”. “In the port of Odessa, fuel and lubricant tanks intended for the Ukrainian armed forces were damaged,” the statement reads. “In the port of Izmail, port infrastructure used for the unloading and storage of military equipment was damaged, along with three depots for maritime drones – including the one at Magura – and a hangar housing equipment belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces. In addition, a floating dock used for the storage and launch of drones was damaged,” the ministry continued. “In the port of Mykolaiv, a cargo ship carrying military equipment was damaged during unloading operations,” the Russian Ministry of Defence added.

At least 5 people were killed and 9 injured following an attack launched by Russian forces against Sloviansk in the Donetsk region. This is according to the regional prosecutor’s office in Donetsk, as reported by Ukrainian media. Explosions were also heard in Kyiv.

The Honorary Consulate of Latvia was also targeted in the attack. The European Union responded by summoning the Russian representative.

“Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Kyiv and other regions are causing civilian casualties deliberately, not by accident. The attack on the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Sloviansk highlights Moscow’s total contempt for international law. Latvia has our full support. In response, we will summon Russia’s envoy to the EU regarding today’s attacks, and I will propose new targeted sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex”, writes the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

At least 10 people were killed and dozens injured in the Russian raid carried out in broad daylight on Kyiv. Ukrainian President Zelensky announced this on social media. “In the Kyiv region,” said Zelensky, “a rescue operation is underway following a Russian missile attack. At present, there are dozens of casualties. Unfortunately, six people have died. I offer my condolences to their families and friends. Investigations are continuing to establish all the circumstances and the fate of those involved. All the necessary services are on site.” The death toll has risen since the news broke.

The target of the Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital is reportedly a “sports complex”, a “private facility” that “has no links to the military” and was therefore not “a training camp”, as explained by the head of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, in comments to a news platform quoted by RBC.

According to preliminary information reported by the acting head of the state administration in Kyiv, Ruslan Oliinyk, it is possible that “an event” was taking place in the affected area. For his part, Ihnat argued that it is now up to the police to assess whether the organisers bear any responsibility, particularly with regard to possible negligence in safety matters.

Meanwhile, speculation is mounting about a meeting between Trump and Zelensky. This is likely to take place next week, on Tuesday 28 July, when the Ukrainian president is expected to travel to the United States to attend the funeral service for Senator Lindsey Graham, as confirmed via X by Radio Liberty correspondent Alex Raufoglu.
