Kiev: 'Syzran oil refinery in Russia hit'

Drones hit the Syzran oil refinery in Russia's Samara region and eyewitnesses released videos showing a fire inside the plant. This was reported by Ukrainian media.

Crude oil from Western Siberia (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, a federal subject of the Russian Federation) is supplied to the refinery via the Transneft pipeline system. The tank farm stores both crude oil and refined oil products prior to shipment.

It is one of the largest refineries in the Volga region, with a capacity of 8.8 million tonnes of oil per year. The attack on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery is the latest in a series of attacks against Russian oil infrastructure. On 16 April, air defence systems were active in the Krasnodar Territory: explosions and a fire were reported in Tuapse, in the port area, and at an oil depot. At least two oil tanks at the Tuapse refinery went up in flames. According to Reuters, the fourth largest refinery in Russia was shut down on 7 April following a Ukrainian drone attack. Previously, in November 2025, unidentified drones had attacked Novokuybyshevsk, and it is believed that the local oil refinery was also among the targets.
