Zelensky, 'peace but not at any cost, we need solid security guarantees'
"Peace is better than war, but not at any cost, because we have already paid a high price. What matters to us is a just and lasting peace, a peace that cannot be violated by another whim of Putin or any other Putin-like figure. It is extremely important that we have strong security guarantees to prevent even the thought or physical ability to retaliate against us with aggression'. This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterates in a post on X, while new talks are underway in Miami, reminding that 'an agreement is not just signing a document'. "We need to know the details," he argues, "what would happen if the Russians attacked again and started another war? How would the Americans and Europeans respond? How would our partners respond? What deterrence package will Ukraine have? What will be present on Ukrainian territory? How will our army be equipped? How strong will it be and what reserves will we have? What will we be able to count on? What package of sanctions will be simultaneously imposed on the aggressor?". All these questions, according to the president, must be answered with an agreement that is "fair and effective".

For US intelligence Putin wants all of Ukraine and is targeting former Soviet states
US intelligence reports continue to warn that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to take over the whole of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire. This was written by Reuters online citing six sources close to US intelligence. According to reports, the reports - the most recent dating back to late September - present "a markedly different picture" from the one painted by Donald Trump and his negotiators, according to which the Russian president intends to end the conflict, and they also contradict the Russian leader's denials of accusations of posing a threat to Europe. The conclusions of US intelligence "are largely in line with the views of European leaders and spy agencies" that Putin covets all of Ukraine and the territories of former Soviet bloc states, including NATO members, according to the sources. "Intelligence has consistently shown that Putin wants more," said Mike Quigley, Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee, in an interview with Reuters. "The Europeans are convinced of that. The Poles are absolutely convinced. The Baltic countries think they are the first." Russia controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory, including most of Lugansk and Donetsk, parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, and the entire Crimea. Putin claims the latter and all four provinces as belonging to Russia. Trump is pressing Kiev to withdraw its forces from the small part of Donetsk still under its control, as part of a proposed peace deal. Yesterday Putin, although saying he was ready to discuss peace, said his conditions would have to be met claiming his forces advanced 6,000 square kilometres this year.
