The news had been in the air for some time, but today it has been confirmed: Kim Jones, 51, is stepping down as creative director of Fendi's womenswear collection and couture line, a role she had held since 2020, following the death of her predecessor, Karl Lagerfeld. He will instead retain the head of menswear at Dior, which he has held since 2018. Both are brands of the Lvmh group. According to Hsbc estimates, with around 2.44 billion in revenue Fendi is the fourth largest fashion brand in the group, after Louis Vuitton, Dior and Celine.
"Kim Jones is a very talented designer who has brought his unique and multicultural vision to Fendi over the past four years," said Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of Lvmh, in a note. "I would like to thank him for his contribution and continue to admire his creativity for Dior Homme.
A few months ago, Kim Jones stunned her 1.2 million followers by deleting all her content from her Instagram account, an account that is currently still deserted. It is now expected that the Roman fashion house, which will celebrate its first 100 years in 2025, will announce the person who will take over its creative leadership. For some time now, the name that seems likely is that of Pierpaolo Piccioli, former creative director of Valentino, a role he left last March, and who had begun his career in Fendi's accessories department.
The brand of the double F appointed its new CEO in June, Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglu, former director of Lvmh's fashion division, and launched its first haute perfumery collection. Silvia Venturini Fendi remains at the creative helm of the men's collection and accessories, her daughter Delfina Delettrez signs the jewellery collection.
